Kendo UI Grid exportar Excel

Question

Tenho a seguinte Grid no *.cshtml:

Como exportar esta Grid para Excel, sem exportar as colunas que estão hidden, para o usuário ter a liberdade de escolher o que quer exportar.

Como eu comentei, você pode pegar as colunas que estão visíveis, assim como outros dados usando a propriedade columns da grid:

$(el).data("kendoGrid").columns

A partir dela você pode criar um array/object com o que você precisa saber no seu serviço para gerar o seu documento, por exemplo:

var gridColumns = [
    {field: "Id", visible: true},
    {field: "Name", visible: true}
];

E então, serializar esse objeto para enviá-lo através de um input type="hidden" por exemplo:

$("#hiddenId").val(JSON.stringify(gridColumns));

Dessa forma você pode receber esse conteúdo numa lista de ViewModel do mesmo formato:

E receber essas informações com o seguinte controller:

public ActionResult ExportToExcel(long id, ..., List<GridColumnsViewModel> gridColumns)

Agora com todos os filtros necessários você pode pegar todos os dados para gerar o documento. Eu usei a lib NPOI para C#(tem no NuGet). Segue alguns trechos interessantes do código que usei:

• Iniciando componente e criando a planilha:

Alguns desses detalhes foram os que mais me deram dor de cabeça quando eu estava criando essa rotina, principalmente os dois últimos, por incrível que pareça.
